My Favorite Quote

"Children are likely to live up to what you believe of them" Lady Bird Johnson

  1. I like your quote and agree with it. I do find that parents or teachers are sometimes quick to label a child (positively or negatively) and that the child will unconsciously maybe prove them right by sticking to that behavior or habit. I don't know if it's like the chicken and egg story and creates a vicious circle but I have noticed that some children couldn't do anything in class to prove their parents or teachers wrong once their mind was set on the child being either lazy, or disruptive, or the best student ever. If you always expect the most out of the children and give them confidence and trust, they will achieve great things.

  2. I like your quote. It is something all educators should live by but, after working with teachers I find many do not. Children are often quickly labeled which carries over to the next grade level, if the child remains in the school. Like Julie said, the label can be positive or negative. Either way, the child becomes aware of it and will behave according to the label put on them. The quote you choose reminds me of a piece of my Philosophy of Education I had to create in undergrade almost 10 years ago: "a teacher must be on of the biggest motivators in a childs life".
